The complementary role of imaging and tumor biomarkers in gynecological cancers: an update of the literature

    Get PDF
Gynecological tumors, including endometrial, cervical and ovarian cancer, have increased in incidence over time. The widespread introduction of screening programs and advances in diagnostic imaging methods has lead to a progressive increase in gynecological cancer detection. Accurate diagnosis and proper monitoring of disease remain the primary target for a successful treatment. In the last years, knowledge about cancer biomarkers has considerably increased providing great opportunities for improving cancer detection and treatment. In addition, in the last few years there has been an important development of imaging techniques. Nowadays, a multimodal approach including the evaluation of serum tumor biomarkers combined with imaging techniques, seems to be the best strategy for assessing tumor presence, spread, recurrence, and/or the response to treatment in female cancer patients In this review we provide an overview of the application of biomarkers combined with novel imaging methods and highlight their roles in female cancer diagnosis and follow-up

The clathrin-binding domain of CALM-AF10 alters the phenotype of myeloid neoplasms in mice.

The PICALM (CALM) gene, whose product is involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis, has been identified in two recurring chromosomal translocations, involving either MLL or MLLT10 (AF10). We developed a mouse model of CALM-AF10(+) leukemia to examine the hypothesis that disruption of endocytosis contributes to leukemogenesis. Exclusion of the C-terminal portion of CALM from the fusion protein, which is required for optimal binding to clathrin, resulted in the development of a myeloproliferative disease, whereas inclusion of this domain led to the development of acute myeloid leukemia and changes in gene expression of several cancer-related genes, notably Pim1 and Crebbp. Nonetheless, the development of leukemia could not be attributed directly to interference with endocytosis or consequential changes in proliferation and signaling. In leukemia cells, full-length CALM-AF10 localized to the nucleus with no consistent effect on growth factor endocyctosis, and suppressed histone H3 lysine 79 methylation regardless of the presence of clathrin. Using fluorescence resonance energy transfer analysis, we show that CALM-AF10 has a propensity to homo-oligomerize, raising the possibility that the function of endocytic proteins involved in chimeric fusions may be to provide dimerization properties, a recognized mechanism for unleashing oncogenic properties of chimeric transcription factors, rather than disrupting the internalization of growth factor receptors

Measurement of the anomalous precession frequency of the muon in the Fermilab Muon g-2 Experiment

The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) has measured the muon anomalous precession frequency ωam to an uncertainty of 434 parts per billion (ppb), statistical, and 56 ppb, systematic, with data collected in four storage ring configurations during its first physics run in 2018. When combined with a precision measurement of the magnetic field of the experiment\u27s muon storage ring, the precession frequency measurement determines a muon magnetic anomaly of aμ(FNAL)=116 592 040(54)×10-11 (0.46 ppm). This article describes the multiple techniques employed in the reconstruction, analysis, and fitting of the data to measure the precession frequency. It also presents the averaging of the results from the 11 separate determinations of ωam, and the systematic uncertainties on the result

The Implementation of Slow Stroke Back Massage in Decreasing Blood Pressure on Hypertension's Patient

Hypertension walk slowly and not experienced until someone get significant organ problem. One of nursing interventions is slow stroke back massage. Objective of this research was to analyze the influence slow stroke back massage toward the change of blood pressure on hypertension's at Puskesmas Pembantu Blabak Wilayah Kerja Puskesmas Pesantren 1 Kota Kediri. Design of this research was pre experiment. Population was the hypertension's patient. Samples were 24 respondents on purposive sampling. Variable was blood pressure. Data was collected using mercurial sphygmomanometer, for know the influence slow stroke back massage using wilcoxon with significant level α < 0.05. Result of research showed that blood pressures significantly decrease. Slow stroke back massage can decrease blood pressure; with maximal value of systolic were 8.00 mmHg and 24.00 mmHg. Conclusion of this research was there was significant slow stroke back massage toward decreasing of blood pressure, easy to practice, simple using and cheap

Magnetic-field measurement and analysis for the Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab

The Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL) Muon g-2 Experiment has measured the anomalous precession frequency aμ(gμ-2)/2 of the muon to a combined precision of 0.46 parts per million with data collected during its first physics run in 2018. This paper documents the measurement of the magnetic field in the muon storage ring. The magnetic field is monitored by systems and calibrated in terms of the equivalent proton spin precession frequency in a spherical water sample at 34.7C. The measured field is weighted by the muon distribution resulting in ωp′, the denominator in the ratio ωa/ωp′ that together with known fundamental constants yields aμ. The reported uncertainty on ωp′ for the Run-1 data set is 114 ppb consisting of uncertainty contributions from frequency extraction, calibration, mapping, tracking, and averaging of 56 ppb, and contributions from fast transient fields of 99 ppb

Isolation and Amino Acid Sequence of Physalaemin, the Main Active Polypeptide of the Skin of Physalaemus fuscumaculatus

    Get PDF
Crude methanol extracts of fresh and dried skins of Physalaemus fuscumaculatus, a South American amphibian, were subjected successively to chromatography on alkaline alumina and to countercurrent distribution. The main active constituent of these extracts, the polypeptide physalaemin, was thus obtained in a pure form. Total and partial acid hydrolysis, fission with trypsin and chymotrypsin, and end-group determination experiments demonstrated that physalaemin is an endecapeptide having the following amino acid composition and sequence: Pyr-Ala-Asp(OH)-Pro-Asp(NH2)-Lys-Phe-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Met-NH2 Some anomalies in the trypsin and chymotrypsin fission of physalaemin are discussed, and the strict chemical resemblance between physalaemin and eledoisin is pointed out.Material digitalizado en SEDICI gracias a la colaboración del Dr. Jorge Williams (FCNM-UNLP).Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Muse
